Cel Animation A  cel , short for  celluloid , is a transparent sheet on which objects are drawn or painted for traditional, hand-drawn  animation .    Actual celluloid (consisting of  cellulose nitrate  and  camphor ) was used during the first half of the 20th century, but since it was flammable it was very unstable. All of the drawings was on static background to save time and make it  easier,  The invention of the  technique  is generally attributed to  Earl Hurd , who patented the process in 1914. Usually an animated feature would require over 100,000 hand-painted cels. This is just a brief description Cel animation. Advantages Looks great  Very enjoyable to watch  Disadvantages Very time consuming   Would be a set back if some of the drawings is done wrong 

3D CGI Animation

3D CGI Animation 3D/CGI animation is essentially a digital successor to stop-motion techniques, using 3D models. The first completely computer animated film was created in 1995, and it has since been one of the biggest markets in the world, with studios such as Pixar, Disney, DreamWorks and Sony - plus independent production companies - creating some of the medium's most memorable films. All of the animations start off with story boards which is then sent to the drawers and then sent to the animators which will take a lot of time, it took Pixar 7 years to make Toy Story. Monsters Inc was the film that made Pixar well known and it was great CGI for the time (2001). Dreamworks also made a 3D CGI animation and it was supposed to rival Pixar's A Bug Life and this rival is called Antz, which was made in 1998 and it was also great animation for its time. 2D Computer Graphics Animation Animators do everything relating to their scenes, including plotting the camera moves, editing the soundtrack, charting information on dope sheets and producing a composited version of their work for comments from the d irector  or a nimation director .    Most professional 2D computer animation work in the UK is produced on one of two packages, either Flash or CelAction. The animation process can differ for both programmes. In addition, different studios set up production in different ways, with animators taking on various responsibilities beyond just animation. A lot of popular shows are made by using 2D Computer Graphic Animation but its very time consuming to do. Advantages: It looks amazing if it is done well Disadvantages: Very time consuming  If you don't back up your files and lose them, you'll have to start all over

Flip book Flip book is a book with little drawings in each page and when you flip through all of the pages it creates a moving image, that's if the images are the same. All you need is a Flip book and a pen/pencil. Advantages: Simple to gather the equipment you need Very Entertaining Disadvantages: Takes a while to complete

Stop Motion  Stop Motion animation is the only art form in the world that can take advantage of all the different types of art. Stop Motion is a technique which utilises photographic methods. You would take a lot of photos and then combine them to make a series of photos look like they are moving.    History Eadweard Muybridge was the first to discover that by lining up a series of cameras and having one take a picture right after the other one in succession, that the result would demonstrate the motion path and trajectory of the objects movement. In 1988 Louis Le Prince made the design for the very first motion picture camera. Zoetrope

                                         The Zoetrope Explanation  The Zoetrope is a vintage animated toy which was a major feature in the new The Women in Black. The Zoetrope is device that spins and produces the illusion of moving in a still image. Its moderately easy to use, you need a cylinder with slits cut vertically in the sides to use them for viewing, on the inner surface is a band of images from a few photos. So once its spinning the user would look through the vertical slits at the side and it will portray that the images are moving. Thaumatrope

The Thaumatrope is Victorian toy which used a card with different images on each side attached to 2 strings then when the strings were rapidly twirled the cards would rotate around 1 point, making it look like the image was moving. The creator of the Thaumatrope was John Ayrton Paris who was an English Physicist and the year was 1825 and the Thaumatrope was the first of its kind.
